NURSERY IN MALAYSIA


DEFINITION

In Malaysia, a legislative-approved childcare center is defined as a premise at which four or more children under the age of four years from more than one household are received to be looke after for reward.

Chilcare centers in Malaysia fall into four categories :
- Goverment-owned childcare centers (Nursery in community since 2006).
- Workplace children centers.
- Institution-based childcare centers with 10 children or more.
- Home-based childcare centers with fewer than 10 children.  

Categories of children centers :

- Workplace Children Centers.

With more women involved in the active employment MWFCD has encourage establishment of children in the workplace. For example, the government provides incentives in the form of RM80,000 grant for the renovation and furnishing of childcare centers set up within government offices. Also, to encourage working mothers to utilize these centers, a subsidy of RM180 per month is given to gevernment workers with monthly salaries below rm2,000 who send their children to these centers.


- Community Childcare Centers.

MWFCD has been setting up community childcare centers in urban and rural areas with the objective of providing quality childcare services that is more accessible and affordable to the local community. It aims to set up 10 new community childcare centers throughout the country every year. The centers uses a curriculum set by MWFCD and is based on active participation of the local community, parents, children, governmental agencies as well private organizations. Families who send send their children to community childcare centers would receive a monthly subsidy of rm180 per child if the family's income is below rm2,000 / rm1,200 in ubran and rural areas respectively. A grant of rm55,000 will also be given to those interested in setting up a community childcare center. 


- PERMATA EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE CENTERS.

PERMATA was established by YABHG Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor in 2007. 
PERMATA theme is "Every Child Is A Jewel".

The founding principles of PERMATA ECE Centers are :

- Every child is a jewel.

- Every child is precious.

- Every child is a part of human capital of the country.

- Every child needs the best education.

- Education must start from at birth / young age.

- The first three is crucial for the development of the child.

The aim of PERMATA ECE Centers is to provide integrated quality care and early education services based on the needs of the local community of children below the age of four. It adopts the community-based integrated approach practice by Pen Green Corby. United Kingdom uses the Sure Start Programmer. Under this approach, the centers of childcare services, counselling, healthcare services to help the local community develop a healthy lifestyle.

WHAT IS PRESCHOOL?


  • Preschool provide early education and care for children age 4 - 6 before they enter the primary school.
  • Approved to operate by Department of Education and Communities under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulation.
  • Operation hour from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm, some from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm on weekdays ( Monday to Friday).
  • Majority preschool operate in line of public school terms and close during public school holidays.                                                                                                                                        
  • Preschool must follow minimum staffing levels set by National Regulation :                                                                                                                                                                                           -one staff for every 10 children aged between 4 to 6 years

Young children learn social skills and emotional self-control in "real time", 4 to 6 years old learn through their experiences and good teachers make time for those "teachable moments" when they can help children learn to manage frustration or anger.

KINDERGARTEN IN MALAYSIA


DEFINITION

Kindergarten, taken from a German word "ˈkɪndɐˌɡaːɐ̯tn̩" is a place where the teachers teach the young children lessons in order to develop their cognitive, physical, social and emotional domains. Which will also a great preparation the young children to enter first grade. 

Kindergarten students are from the age of four until six years old. Kindergarten uses an educational approach traditionally based on playing, singing, practical activities

In Malaysia, kindergarten is known as tadika. There are no fixed rules for children in kindergarten and the children usually attend kindergarten for two years before enrolling to primary school at the age of 7

Early education for children from the age of 4-6 years old comes under three ministries, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Rural & Regulation Development and the Department of National Unity.

The benefits of kindergarten are that the children are able to develop their  social skill by interacting with fellow friends and teachers. The kindergarten teachers often provide activities that encourage communication by focusing on their environment and their stages of development.

Other than that, kindergarten students able to develop their intellectual skills when learning about alphabets and numbers by reading or writing. They also improve their physical state by doing activities that require body movement such as dancing, jumping, running and etc.


Some kindergarten also include activities that increases the young students spiritual skills by teaching them how to perform their prayers, recite Al-Quran and du'a. Teachers sometimes practices religious  teaching.
